Jamaican Mule

Jamaican Mule

High in the Dry Harbour Mountains, where the air is thick with humidity and the soil is rich with volcanic minerals, wild ginger grows in abundance. For generations, Jamaicans have harvested this fiery root, using it in everything from traditional remedies to beloved beverages. The sharp, warming bite of fresh ginger is woven into the island’s culinary identity—a spice that awakens the senses and embodies Jamaica’s vibrant spirit.

The Jamaican Mule is our celebration of this heritage. While the classic Moscow Mule showcases vodka, we’ve taken it back to the Caribbean by pairing Funk Harbor Dark Rum with the assertive kick of ginger beer. The aged rum’s deep, complex character stands up beautifully to the ginger’s heat, while fresh lime juice adds brightness and balance. It’s a drink that captures the essence of the island—bold, refreshing, and full of life.

Served in a traditional copper mug that keeps it ice-cold, the Jamaican Mule is perfect for those hot afternoons when you need something with enough punch to cut through the heat. One sip, and you’ll feel the mountains, taste the spice, and understand why ginger has been Jamaica’s secret weapon for centuries.

Putting it Together

1

Fill a copper mug or highball glass with ice.

2

Add Funk Harbor Dark Rum and fresh lime juice.

Stir gently to combine all ingredients, being careful not to lose too much fizz.

5

Garnish with a piece of candied ginger and a lime wheel on the rim.

Pro Tip

The quality of your ginger beer makes all the difference in this cocktail. Look for authentic, spicy ginger beers with real ginger content rather than mild, overly sweet versions. Brands like Fever-Tree, Q Ginger Beer, or Cock’n Bull deliver the kick this drink deserves. If you’re using a copper mug, chill it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before building the drink—the icy-cold metal enhances the refreshing experience. For an extra layer of ginger intensity, muddle a small piece of fresh ginger in the mug before adding the other ingredients.
